Marilyn Mae Stander, age 88, passed away peacefully on Monday, January 3, 2022, at the Vinton Lutheran Home.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM Thursday at the Phillips Funeral Home Chapel (212 E. 6th Street) in Vinton. Interment will be held at Evergreen Cemetery in Vinton. Visitation will be held from 10:00 AM until service time Thursday, at the funeral home. Memorials may be directed to the Vinton Lutheran Home, where Marilyn received loving care for the past 9 years.

Marilyn was born, on October 2, 1933, in Blairstown, the daughter of Lester and Eunice (Pearson) Newton. She graduated from Blairstown High School. In August of 1956, she married Richard Stander in Cedar Rapids. The couple later divorced.

Marilyn loved the outdoors, gardening and bird watching were favorite past-times. She also enjoyed the many cats she had through the years, and watching rodeo, especially bull-riding. Visits, and spending time with her great grandchildren were her greatest joy.

She is survived by her children, Betty (Kevin) Cayton of Vinton, Robert (Judy) Stander of Vinton, James (Yvonne) Stander of Horse Heads, NY, David (Kathie) Stander of Vinton, Randy (Cheryl) Smith of Center Point; 10 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; sister, Brenda (Daryl) Meyer of Blairstown; sisters-in-law, Judy Newton of California; Janet Newton, and brother-in-law Darrel Dellamuth, all of Blairstown; and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; 2 brothers, Randy Newton and Terry Newton; and 3 sisters, Susan Frimml, Betsy Hartsen, and Dixie Dellamuth.
