Bernice was born, on June 1, 1930 at Prince Edward Island Canada, the daughter of John "Jack" and Mary (MacIsaac) MacDonald. She graduated from high school in Canada and attended college for two years, receiving her teaching certificate. After college, Bernice traveled to Boston, MA, where she met Anthony "Tony" Becker, who was serving in the United States Navy. Bernice worked at REM as a caregiver, and as a House Parent at the Iowa Braille School. Bernice and Tony were also very involved in the construction and maintenance of Rails to Trails. She loved to travel, and "outfish" Tony. Her greatest joy was her family, especially watching her grandchildren and great-grandchildren grow up.

She is survived by her children, Gregory (Ranae) Becker, and Margaret Stewart; grandchildren, Caleb (Amanda) Stewart and Nash Stewart, Josh and Nicole Becker, Natasha Becker, Nicole (Louie) Trachta; and her great-grandchildren, Mia Stewart, Alyx Becker, Aiden, Eva, and Everly Trachta.
