Morris N. Miller, 78, of Oskaloosa, formerly of Belle Plaine, drove to his heavenly home on Thursday, Nov. 25, 2021, at the Northern Mahaska Specialty Care Center in Oskaloosa under hospice care after a battle with cancer.

Morris was born July 6, 1943, in Bourbon, Mo., the son of Elvin "Eugene" and Martha (Stroup) Miller. He attended school in Bourbon until the eighth grade. On Dec. 1, 1962, he was united in marriage to Betty Olson. To this union two children were born, Marcy and Neal.

Morris held many jobs over the course of his working career. He worked as a farmer, drove semi-truck and worked at the Belle Plaine Livestock Sale Barn for many years. Lastly, Morris was working at the feed store in Victor until recently retiring. Morris was a member of the Faith Baptist Church in Belle Plaine for over 40 years. Morris enjoyed staying busy with work. When he was not working, he enjoyed reading, playing solitaire and spending time by the water fishing and watching others fish. Morris was a jokester who never knew a stranger. He was a caring man who would give the shirt of his back to anyone in need. Above all else, his grandchildren were the light of his life.

His family includes his wife of over 59 years, Betty Miller of New Sharon; his children, Marcy (Allen) Mabee of Oskaloosa and Neal (Susan) Miller of Oskaloosa; six grandchildren, Meghan Fisk (Jeff Stewart), Trevor (Kayli) Mabee, Ryan Mabee, Hannah Miller, Andy (Dorothy) Roberts and Jesse Millikin; eight great-grandchildren; and his siblings, Albert (Nancy) Miller of St. Louis, Mo., Susie (Monty) Todd of Bourbon, Mo., Virginia (Larry) Crowder of Sullivan Mo., and Andy (Donna) Miller of House Springs, Mo. He is also survived by a half sister, Loretta Burrows.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Lloyd Miller.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, Dec. 3, in the Bates Funeral Chapel with Pastor Mike Strombough officiating. Bates Funeral Chapel is in charge of the arrangements. Visitation will begin after noon Thursday, Dec. 2, in the Bates Funeral Chapel, the family will be at the funeral home from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday to greet friends and relatives. As was Morris's wish, his body will be cremated after the services. Memorials may be made to the Stephens Memorial Animal Shelter or St. Jude's Children's Hospital.
