John Carl Niebuhr, 75, passed away on Monday, Oct. 4, 2021, at UnityPoint-St. Luke's Hospital in Cedar Rapids.

Memorial services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday, Oct. 11, 2021, at Grace Lutheran Church Blairstown with the Rev. Jeffrey Schanbacher officiating. Interment will be held at Peasant Hill Cemetery in Blairstown with graveside military rites conducted by the M.J. Kirby American Legion Post 170 of Blairstown and Navy Funeral Honors. Visitation will be held from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday, also at the Church in Blairstown.

John was born on Sept. 29, 1946, in Cedar Rapids, the son of Edwin and Vera (Cordes) Niebuhr. He graduated from Blairstown High School with the Class of 1964. John served his Country in the United States Navy, during the Viet Nam War. He was united in marriage to Donna Savage on Aug. 30, 1969, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Cedar Rapids. John received his degree in Agriculture from Iowa State University in 1971.

John farmed and raised livestock on the family farm all of his working life. He truly loved being a farmer. He was an active member of Grace Lutheran Church, where he held numerous offices. John was active in the community, as a member of the M.J Kirby American Legion post, and a volunteer with Meals on Wheels. He loved to discuss farming and Republican politics with his many friends. John was a true family man and dearly loved time spent with his children and especially his grandchildren.

He is survived by his wife, Donna; children, Kristine (Michael) Rummel of Cedar Rapids, Joseph (Janet) Niebuhr of Blairstown and Janelle Niebuhr of Kansas City, Mo.; five grandchildren, Gabriel, Paige and Noah Rummel and Margaret and Edwin Niebuhr; sister, Sheryl (Jo Ford) Niebuhr of Lake Elmo, Minn.; brothers, Steven (Vicki) Niebuhr of Ames, Mark (Diane) Niebuhr of Blairstown and Paul (Lisa) Niebuhr of Sioux City; and his nieces and nephews, Johanna, Ariel, Elias, Elisabeth and Moriah.

John was proceeded in death by his parents; in-laws, James and Nelle Savage; and his nephew, Evan.
