Berniece (Cottrell) Schwartz, age 93, passed away on Monday, June 28th, 2021, at the Vinton Lutheran Home.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 AM, Friday, July 2nd at the Vinton Presbyterian Church (608 1st Avenue), with Rev. Jessica Crane-Munoz officiating. Visitation will be held from 4:00 until 6:00 pm Thursday at Phillips Funeral Home, (212 E 6th St. Vinton). Interment at Evergreen Cemetery, Vinton. Memorials can be sent to 603 W 8th St., Vinton, IA 52349.
Berniece was born on August 23, 1927 to Wesley (Joe) and Grace (Hittle) Cottrell in rural Buchanan County. She was a 1946 graduate of Vinton Community Schools. She married Kenneth Schwartz on December 6, 1947. The couple had three children, Linda (deceased), Rosemary, Vinton, and Barry (Tammy) Schwartz, Cedar Rapids.
Berniece was an established restaurant cook and worked in local area restaurants for many years until her retirement. Berniece was the last survivor of her and husband's family including all the in-laws.
She was preceding in death by her husband, Kenneth in 2001, her daughter Linda in 2020, and son-in-law Lynn Duitsman (Rosemary); siblings, Charlene Priebe, Gale Cottrell, Joan Westcott, and Marion Cottrell.

I am so sorry for the loss of your mother.
Unfortunately, I was unaware of it, until this morning, when preparing for the Belle Plaine Parade.
I feel terrible that I did not attend, but do know of all of your friends, and the friends of your mother, were there to give you their strength and support.
