This year, we will be starting a “Did You Know?” series where our employees will have the opportunity to choose a topic and help educate others on it. The goal of this series is to share knowledge, highlight the work we do, and learn more about different roles, resources, and topics that impact our office and our community.
Kicking off the year, we will be starting with a message from the Communications Division!
Did you know you can text 911?
Call if you can, but text if you can't. Voice calls are still the fastest way for dispatchers to confirm your location, gather information and provide life-saving instructions. Texting is intended for situations where you are in danger and it's not safe to talk, or if you are unable to talk during a medical emergency, specifically those that may be hard of hearing or speech-impaired.
If you do need to text 911, your first message should have the address or location of the emergency and the type of help you need. Answer the questions the best you can. To avoid confusion and misunderstandings, don't use slang or abbreviations.
If you do not have an emergency, but wish to speak to us, please call our non-emergency line at 319-472-2337 ex.1.
We hope you find this series helpful and informative! Stay tuned for the next one.
