Members of Junior Girl Scout Troop #611 of Norway made a very special delivery to Virginia Gay Hospital recently.  They weren’t delivering Girl Scout Cookies, but something that will have a much more lasting affect on the lives of area children.  The girls made blankets to help comfort kids that may be intimidated by a hospital stay.

Troop leader Vicky Jensen suggested the idea to the girls, and they took it from there.  “One of our girls broke her arm a couple years ago, and she said it would have been really cool if she could have had one of those blankets when she was in the hospital.  I think for her it was a really personal project,” Jensen said.

It was very important to the girls that the blankets get donated to kids from the area.  “We chose to give the blankets to Virginia Gay Hospital because we live in Benton County.  This is our home hospital”, she added.  “Everybody provides to Cedar Rapids, it’s the smaller hospitals that get left out.  Big hospitals are always in the news, but it’s good to know about the local ones here too”.

The girls were treated to a private tour of the newly expanded emergency room and acute care areas of the hospital by ER Nurse Carla Yeo.  She was very impressed with the girls and the blankets.  “The colors are really bright and pretty and you can tell they worked hard on them.  I could tell they really came from the heart.  The kids that get these will definitely appreciate them.”
