I might be wrong, but it feels like this year the Christmas lights have been plentiful across Vinton.  

Adding a new level of fun is the display at  1307 B Ave. in Vinton, it is one of the displays that you really need to see to appreciate. The kids will love this one! In addition to a singing Christmas tree, and flashing mini trees, there are also now two Christmas bulbs that occasionally pop up to sing lead in some of the songs. The display brings in several Christmas traditional songs as well as the Peanuts version of the Christmas story. To hear all of this, you'll need to tune your radio to 90.3 FM to appreciate the synchronized musical light display.  

Kord Sellers says that the lights are on from about 4:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. He encourages everyone to drive by often because there are about 15 different songs that cycle through the light display.  CLICK HERE  for a sample.


Don't forget that if you have a light display in your yard or business register your lights for the Deck the House contest sponsored by the Vinton Parks and Recreation Department. The information is below:

Eligible houses and businesses must be within the Vinton city limits. Registration to participate is free.

To register your home or business,  CLICK HERE  or stop by the Recreation Center at 701 A St East. Register by Sunday, December 4.

Registered addresses will be placed on our Deck the House voting form and map, which will go active on Friday, December 9 until Sunday, December 18.

Looking for some holiday fun? Check out the Vinton homes and businesses that are decorated to bring you seasonal cheer and spirit. All residents that live in or near Vinton are eligible to vote.

The "Deck the House" voting form and map will be available on Friday, December 9 at  vprdzone.com, or on the  Vinton Parks and Recreation Department Facebook page, and at the Vinton Recreation Center located at 701 A St East.

Voting period: Friday, December 9 - Sunday, December 18.

Griswold and Elegant  -  voters determine your category based on your display!

Winners will be announced on Tuesday, December 20 by 5:00 PM on our  website  and  Facebook page.

Residential Awards for each Category:

1st place: $150 VU Bucks and yard sign

2nd place: $100 VU Bucks

3rd place: $50 VU Bucks

Business Award Category:

$100 VU Bucks and Godfather’s pizza party
