The local VFW sponsors the Red Cedar Shooters Trap Team and have an ongoing relationship with the team. The team asked the local VFW Post 8884 if they would help get a flag pole and flag on the grounds of Izaak Walton in Vinton. When they have their trap shooting meets the team wants to display the flag for their opening ceremonies.

The team dug the hole for the flag pole and Dale and Jeanette Henry went out and set the pole and cemented it in the ground. On Saturday, May 21, 2022 the Boy Scouts, VFW and Auxiliary held a flag raising for the new installation.

The scouts wanted to be part of the ceremony so the VFW Post 8884 got the youth involved in the program. The scouts folded the flag into the proper triangle. The Star Spangled Banner was played while the flag was raised, followed by those in attendance reciting The Pledge of Allegiance. "The folks were very pleased that they got their Flag and the ceremony completed. The scouts did a wonderful job doing the ceremony," said Jeanette Henry thePresident of the Smith-Geater VFW Post #8884 Auxiliary as well as theDepartment of Iowa VFW Auxiliary President.
