A monster of an idea was hatched by some creative geniuses who had the foresight to connect two special groups of people. The 2nd grade students at Tilford Elementary, along with the help of teachers Mr. Larson and Mrs. Sturtz were given the assignment to have students draw a picture of a monster. Any kind of monster. The students had no idea why. Their drawings were collected and secretly sent off to the Vinton-Shellsburg's High School Family and Consumer Sciences class.

The high schoolers were tasked with a "monster" of a job. The class was given the drawings and made them come to life. Each of the 2nd-grade students in these classes received a handmade version of their drawing. Replicating the details on the drawing as best as they could, the high schoolers then popped into class on Wednesday morning to present the little monsters to the 2nd-grade classes.

Katie Isbell and Adriane Gordon were recognized for their part in connecting the students and their ability to help bring the monster colorings to life. Mrs. Sturtz said, "This was such a special morning for the kids! We are now working on writing stories about our monster's adventures! This was the best!"

To the Vinton-Shellsburg high schoolers who made these little kids smile and laugh...you rock!

JC May 23, 2022, 3:40 pm I love everything about this! Older and younger students connecting, younger children seeing their creative ideas coming to life, older students seeing their creations have meaning to the young children, and joyful, enthusiastic teaching to encourage all.
