From Sunday, April 10th through Tuesday, April 12th, 36 Vinton-Shellsburg FFA Members traveled to Ames for the 94th Annual State Leadership Conference. The members started their State adventures by setting up and practicing for numerous competitions.

All of our members worked extremely hard to prepare for the State Convention and they were ready for the competition. The chapter ended their adventures for Sunday with dinner at Hickory Park and then continued with their nightly meeting to get everybody prepared for a day of competition and sessions held by Iowa FFA State Officers.

On Monday, two groups of contests, Prepared Public Speaking and Parliamentary Procedure along with two of our Courtesy Corp members were up bright and early. These members had to be in their holding rooms and were ready to take on the day. The rest of the members arrived at the convention around 8:30 and got to take in a day of touring the career center and prepare for some later contests.

The chapter's Ag Biotechnology team, and Ag Communications also competed later in the day. To finish the day at Hilton Coliseum, the chapter watched the first General Session. In this session, several contests and all three of the Chapters books placings were given out as well. *Results will be listed below* The Chapter then went to the FFA BBQ at the Hansen Learning Center. After dinner, the chapter arrived back at the hotel with time to prepare for the next day's contests and for some swimming and chapter bonding.

On Tuesday, the chapter loaded the bus and vehicles up and prepared for another day of convention. Some of the contests traveled to the Hansen Learning Center to compete and the rest of the chapter went back to the Hilton Coliseum. Here members had the chance to visit the Career Show again, attend different workshops, and watch other contests. The chapter's Poultry Judging, Farm Business Management, Ag Communications, and Team Ag Sales Teams all competed throughout the day.

While other team members were competing there were two more general sessions that our other members could attend. In these sessions, members were able to listen to the retiring address of the State Officers, watch some of the Talent winners, listen to Guest Speakers, and listen to the Band and Choir members. After the third general session members had a chance to go get something to eat before coming back for the fourth and final general session of the 94th Annual State FFA Leadership Convention.

The chapter gathered together once again to attend the fourth general session which included the State President's retiring address, the Iowa FFA Band, an address from Iowa's Lieutenant Governor Adam Gregg, FFA members receiving their Iowa Degrees, and the Installation of the new State Officer Team.

After the fourth session, the chapter loaded back up into the vehicles and headed back to Vinton to bring back the new information that they had learned to members that were unable to attend. The chapter would like to give a huge thank you to our four chaperones Nichole McKenna, Chad Newton, Mark Pingenot, and Amanda Hernandez, for helping out and making sure that all of the members were where they needed to be at the right time.
