The path of destruction from the tornado on March 5 is evident at Maplewood Cemetery on Vinton's west side. Several monuments were damaged and many just toppled over from the strong winds.

Tom Boeckmann, President of Vinton Monuments, announced today that he has been working to re-set undamaged monuments. Boeckmann said that "there appear to be about fifteen monuments that are not damaged but need to be re-set. Vinton has been very good to my family for the past 39 years and I want to continue to pay back for the support."

Boeckmann called Cameron Kennedy at Lewiston Monument Company for assistance. The company, founded in 1919, has been a family business for four generations. They are the exclusive supplier for Vinton Monuments. Kennedy said that they would be honored to come to Vinton to re-set undamaged monuments at no cost. According to Kennedy, crews will try to be in Vinton in a few weeks - allowing the ground to firm up before bringing in equipment.

Boeckmann added that they will not be able to repair the monuments on-site and they will not re-set any monument that is damaged. Families are asked to contact Vinton Monuments if you would like a monument re-set at Maplewood Cemetery or if you have a monument in the Benton County area that needs to be professionally cleaned.
