Julie Ann Viet, 43 of Solon, is facing several charges following a traffic accident on October 23, 2021. Viet has been charged with Serious Injury by Vehicle, Operating while under the Influence, and three counts of child endangerment causing bodily injury.

The three-vehicle crash occurred at about 8:30 p.m in Benton County on Highway 30 near Atkins at 32nd Ave.

Viet who was traveling east in a 2017 Toyota Corolla, crossed the center line and collided head-on with Keagan Jay DeVore, 19 of Des Moines who was driving a Dodge Avenger and going west. A third vehicle, a Ford Fiesta, driven by Ramon Alfredo Ubay Rodriguez, 54 from Toledo, was struck with debris from the collision.

Viet and Rodrigues only suffered minor injuries and were taken by ambulance to St. Luke's Hospital in Cedar Rapids.

Devore was airlifted to the University of Iowa Hospitals in Iowa City.

18-year-old Brooklyn Purkeypile of Des Moines and three juveniles were transported to St. Luke's Hospital for injuries that they received as a result of the accident.

The Iowa State Patrol investigated the accident which resulted in the five charges. Viet's trial has been set for March 31st, 2022.
