The Vinton Area Fire Department made their annual visit to the local elementary school to share the tips necessary to educate children about fire safety.
Teaching children to crawl below smoke should they be inside of a building that catches on fire, and explaining how they can touch their bedroom door to see if it's hot to indicate that there is a fire on the other side.
Because of the advent of cell phones, the importance of teaching your children their address is important in case of an emergency.
The children were encouraged to yell
when they know that the fireman is in the room searching for them so
that the fireman can find them through the smoke.
Speaking to Mrs. Parker's Kindergarten
class some of the children became concerned about their stuffed
animals and other belongings and what would happen to them, making obvious the need to
teach children that their safety is more important than a favorite toy. The
fireman assured the children that if anything needed to be saved, the
fireman is the one to do it, not the children.
The Vinton Fire Department will be continuing their efforts this week to educate the children with visits to the fire station and riding on the Fire Trucks.
