Parents are focus of new campaign

A media campaign targeting binge drinking prevention is underway in Benton County. The social media, radio and television ads focus on the way binge drinking can change the way a child views their parent.

The campaign, called ‘Changes You,” will run through the holidays and winter months and complements the continuing “Stay Classy” and “What Do You Throw Away?” campaigns focusing on younger adults. Benton County is one of 23 counties chosen for the campaigns, which are funded through the Strategic Prevention Framework State Incentive Grant and administrated by Iowa Department of Public Health, through the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services.

“Our previous campaigns have focused on making kids and younger adults think about the consequences of underage and binge drinking to empower them to take control of their lives,” said David Condry, Prevention Specialist. “This new campaign really brings home the toll binge drinking can take on a family. Children who see their parents drunk never look at them the same way again.”
