The Benton County Board of Supervisors met in regular session with Supervisors Seeman, Tippet and Volz present. Chairman Seeman called the meeting to order at 9:00 a.m. at the Benton County Service Center. Members of the public are invited to join in during open session or watch the livestream at https://www.youtube.com/bentoncountyiowa. Full Resolutions will be available in the Auditor’s office and at: www.bentoncountyia.gov
Volz moved/Tippett seconded: To approve the agenda. Tippett, Seeman and Volz voting aye. Motion carried.
Volz moved/Tippett seconded: To approve the minutes of Tuesday, April 21, 2026. All members voting aye. Motion carried.
Tippett moved/Volz seconded: To approve the following EMS Trust Fund claims numbered 257235 through 257238 in the total amount of $56,061.51 to the following:
Urbana 1st Responders- $1,312.02
Walford 1st Responders-$7,488.63
Belle Plaine Ambulance-$42,415.28
Garrison 1st Responders- $4,845.58
Seeman and Volz both voting aye. Motion carried.
Tippett Moved/Volz seconded: To set public hearing date of Tuesday, May 19, 2026 at 9:15 a.m. for Theodore and Lori Burr within the SE ¼ of the NW ¼ and the SW ¼ of the NE ¼ of Section 28-82-12. Tippett, Seeman and Volz voting aye. Motion carried.
Tippett moved/Volz seconded: To approve suspended tax list on parcel #s 170-13200, 170-13240, 120-02700, 870-39800, 240-22500, 240-30852, 030-44025 and authorize Chairman to sign letter to Department of Health and Human Services. Tippett, Seeman and Volz voting aye. Motion carried.
Volz moved//Tippett seconded: To approve Resolution #26-34, Abatement of Taxes on Parcel #s 270-10040 and 270-07701. Tippett, Volz and Seeman voting aye. Motion carried.
Tippett moved/Volz seconded: To approve Resolution #26-35, 2026 Destruction of Noxious Weeds deadline is June 1, 2026 per Code of Iowa Chapter 317 Noxious Weeds, and Iowa Dept. of Agriculture & Land Stewardship Administrative Rules Chapter 58 . Tippett, Seeman and Volz voting aye. Motion carried.
Eric Schares, Benton County Weed Commissioner provided an update on his department and also explained the noxious weeds public notice he will be posting soon.
Tippett moved/Volz seconded: To acknowledge the Federal Inmate contract between Benton County Jail and United States Marshals Service for housing federal prisoners with a per diem rate of $85.62. Tippett, Seeman and Volz voting aye. Motion carried.
Volz moved/Tippett seconded: To approve the Iowa Department of Transportation (IDOT) FY27 Secondary Roads Budget. Tippett, Seeman and Volz voting aye. Motion carried.
Tippett moved/Volz seconded: To approve the IDOT Five Year FY27-FY31 Secondary Roads Construction Program. Tippett, Seeman and Volz voting aye. Motion carried.
Tippett moved/Volz seconded: To approve the IDOT Pre Construction Agreement 2026-C0199 for intersection improvements at US HWY 30 to place rumble strips along 26th Ave, 27th Ave, 30th Ave, 32nd Ave and 33rd Ave. in an estimated amount of $10,690.76. Tippett, Seeman and Volz voting aye. Motion carried.
Engineer reminded the Board that the dust control deadline to sign up is Friday, May 1, 2026.
Tippett moved/Volz seconded: To adjourn meeting at 10:03 a.m. Tippett, Seeman and Volz voting aye. Motion carried.
