Government : Final list of Benton County Candidates for June 2nd Primary

A quick google of the political breakdown in Benton County politics indicate that the politcal scorecard indicates that the Republican party holds a strong 60% of Republican voters compared to 30% Democrat leaning voters, and the other 10% are registered Independent.

This year the primaries reflect that. There will be two contested races on the primaries ballot this year.

Benton County Board of Supervisors

In the most contested race, the Benton County Supervisor seat held by Tracy Seeman. There are two challengers for the seat. For the second time in as many years, another woman is competing against the status quo. The first and last time a woman won this position was 54 years ago, in 1972. She served from 1973 until 1980.

Benton County Treasurer

The Benton County Treasurer's Office will also see a bit of competition between sitting Treasurer Melinda Schottmer and Second Deputy Treasurer Joy Wieditz. Both have served the county for just about the same length of time.

Benton County Recorder

Lexa Speidel will remain unopposed on the Republican side of the ticket for the Recorder's Office position on the ballot. In November, she will face a Democratic contender. Basically, this is an uncontested primary race for the primaries, one vote for either will put them on the ballot in November.

How do Primaries work?

The primaries on June 2, 2026 are for the purpose of selecting the candidates who will appear on the November ballot. When you vote in June, you are narrowing the field for your party's candidate.

Are you registered to vote?

Residents should register to vote before May 18, 2026. If you are not registered, you can still vote on election day, but you will need to show your ID and bring two other forms of proof of residency, like your utility bills, bank statements, etc.
