Reynolds signs 25 bills, including fireworks and school funding measures

Kim Reynolds signed 25 bills into law Monday, including measures related to fireworks, school funding and First Amendment rights.The slate of bills signed is the first action on legislation Reynolds has taken since the 2025 legislative session adjourned Thursday. However, these are not the first bills she has signed this year — the governor has already signed into law several measures, including high-profile laws like the ban on using cellphones while driving outside of handsfree or voice-activated modes, and the removal of gender identity from the Iowa Civil Rights Act.

By Robin OpsahlThe Iowa Legislature adjourned Thursday at 6:01 a.m. in the Senate and 6:31 a.m. in the House, finishing the 2025 legislative session with many priorities from the majority party met — but with several major goals, including property taxes, not making the cut.While leaders reflected on successfully moving forward on many of their top objectives, the final few days of the 2025 legislative session were tense between some members of the majority party.

Reynolds releases statement on the 2025 legislative session

Reynolds released the following statement in response to the conclusion of the 2025 legislative session:    “I’m proud of the work we did this session to expand on the strong foundation we’ve built over the last several years in healthcare, education, and tax reform. We prioritized rural and maternal healthcare and created a new physician pipeline that will result in 460 new medical residents over the next four years.

Reynolds issues statement on ‘Families First Bill’

Governor Kim Reynolds released the following statement in response to both the Iowa House and Senate passing HF 889, a bill to provide four weeks of paid maternity leave and one week of paid paternity leave for state employees: “After working on it for three years, the families first bill is finally headed to my desk,” said Gov.
