The Vinton Garden club, a member of National Garden clubs, Inc. District II and Central Region met on November 30, 2016 in the office at the Benton County Fairgrounds. President Fran Stueck called the meeting to order at 1:30PM. Prior to the start of the meeting, the members completed the construction of bee houses that had been precut and nailed together by club members Ted and Fran Stueck. It was a great project. It is hoped the bee houses will help provide protection to our bees that help pollinate our plants and fruit trees. Information on the bee houses, bees' lives was given by Fran. Members recited the Pledge of Allegiance and the Conservation Pledge. Seven members answered roll call to "do you plant flowers for bees". Rosie Boisen read the minutes of our October meeting were read. Approved as read. Sharen Stueck presented the treasurer's report. No new bills were presented. Approved report will be filed for audit. Club members noted no new correspondence. COMMITTEE REPORTS: Garden Therapy-Michelle Gibson - reminded club of Therapy at the Lutheran Home on Wednesday, December 7, 2016, at 2:30. Bring greenery and clippers. UNFINISHED BUSINESS: Programs for 2017 were discussed. Rosie Boisen made a motion to not have a meeting in January. A few members will be on winter vacation. 2nd by Anne Dake. Motion carried. Fran informed the members that Mollie Noren, Tilford Elementary Advisor, presented us with a family to help support for Christmas. The names of the children, ages and wishes were presented to the club. Members will buy a gift, wrap it and bring it to our meeting on December 7th, 2016, and President Fran Stueck will then get those presents to Ms. Noren. Work on the by-laws will be done early 2017 when all officers are present. NEW BUSINESS: Fran passed around information on the Annual Greene Scene Symposium, to be held Saturday, March 4, 2017, in Waterloo, Iowa. It runs from 8am to 2:30 p.m.. Cost is $35. December 7th, 2016 the club will meet for lunch at the Vinton Family Restaurant at 11:15 and then will hold their meeting at the Lutheran Home prior to doing the plant therapy of holiday greens and baby red carnations(from Barb Merchant local florist/designer).
