AmeriCorps NCCC-FEMA team Hickory 5 is back in Colorado working at the Denver Federal Center until March 10. The team is continuing to assist with the Catastrophic Earthquake Response Plan by updating and editing the maps that were made last project round, and focusing on completing the first draft of the Emergency Support Function Resource Analysis spreadsheet.
So far each member on the team has been given an emergency support function to research. The goal of this research is to understand the role, capabilities, and the concept of operations for each emergency support function (ESF) so the team is able to update the current version of the Resource Analysis. Each team member has been assigned to work with a FEMA staff member who specializes in the ESF they are assigned to. The goal is to be able to fill in the missing components of the Resource Analysis spreadsheet, and with the joint efforts of FEMA staff and Hickory 5, this should be accomplished by March.
Hickory 5 also had the honor to receive specialized GIS (Geographic Information Systems) training at the ESRI Western Regional office in December. The team plans on using their new GIS skills to better edit the maps made in round one.
Since this is Hickory 5’s second round in Denver, CO they hope to develop and host a community day. The team is excited to reach out to organizations they’ve served with in the past, as well as new opportunities. Not only do they want to positively impact the community of Denver through service, they plan to interact and be part of this great community as well. Their goal is to continue to experience as much of Colorado as possible, and enjoy every moment of their time in Denver.
