The Vinton-Shellsburg boys golf team had two separate leaders in its last two events, including first-time medalist Daniel Ervin at South Tama.

The Vikings finished in third place at the Lake McBride Golf course Thursday. The course was in good condition but it was tough conditions with the cold and wind gusts up to 25 mph. Dyersville-Beckman won the meet, shooting a 163. Western Dubuque shot 165, Vinton-Shellsburg, 167, and Solon, 175.

The scores were very close and it was a very close and competitive meet. Chance Maiers from Dyersville was the medalist carding a 35 on the par 36 layout.

Daniel Janssen led the Vikings shooting a 40. Daniel Ervin shot 41, Dylan Rippel shot 42, Tyler Stueck carded a 44, and Drew Pearson and Bryce Shaw both shot 46.

Tama/Toledo recap

The Vikings won a dual golf meet Friday at the Tama/Toledo Country Club in Tama. The conditions were very mild and the course was in good shape. The course is par 35 layout and had sand traps and water hazards. Vinton-Shellsburg won the varsity contest shooting 170 and South Tama shot 185. The Viking JV squad also won their contest shooting 176 while South Tama 213.

Daniel Ervin won his first career medalist honor carding a 40. Daniel really played well and has been very consistent the last 3 weeks. Other varsity scores were:

Brandon Geiger and Austin Bohnsack led the JV squad shooting a 41. This was his best scores of the year for each player. Both Brandon and Austin have been lowering their scores and becoming more consistent in the 40’s. Other JV scores:

The Varsity is off to Gardner Golf Course in Marion for the divisional conference tourney. The Varsity and JV will be in competition on Tuesday in Vinton, Thursday in Shellsburg, and then back in Vinton on Saturday.
