What a night the Vinton-Shellsburg girls had! They really came ready to play. We had "four in the forties" and one score in the 30s. This is Erin Randall's first round in the 30s in competition. It was a night of personal bests: besides Erin, Cara Hach, Mara Jessen, Lauren Tandy and Kaiti Kilpatrick shot personal bests in high school competition.
In my 20th year of coaching golf, this is the lowest team score I've ever had! I am so proud of these girls; many of them spent time practicing over the weekend. It really paid off.
We also want to give credit to Pat Zedrick, our pro from Cedar Rapids who has helped prepare us for this season. It was great that he could be there to celebrate with us tonight.
In addition, our JV girls continue to shave strokes off of their games. Maddie Elwick and Kacie Struve broke into the 50s for the first time. Olivia Walker, Alyssa Bunge and Sierra Goodell also are improving as they participate for the first time in high school golf.
Next we are scheduled to play a dual with Benton Community at Tara Hills near Van Horne Thursday night.
