The Vinton-Shellsburg Red Cedar Shooters Trap Team will host AGWSR for their first competition of the season this Saturday, April 6th at the Red Cedar Chapter Izaak Walton League. Practice rounds start at 7:30 a.m., and competition will begin at 9 a.m. The Red Cedar Shooters number 33 members this year, up from 20 last season, and the most ever in the 5 year history of the program. The program is open to Vinton-Shellsburg High School students, and is a recognized letter-winning sport in the V-S School District. The Iowa High School Trap League operates under the auspices of the Iowa Department of Natural Resources Shooting Sports Program and the Iowa Scholastic Clay Target Program, and is one of the fastest growing competitive high school sports in the State. The Vinton-Shellsburg team has finished in the top 10 in the State for the past two years, placing 3rd in the 2011 State Championships, and 9th in 2012. The event is open to the public and free of charge. Concessions will be available on site. Hearing protection and lawn chairs are recommended.
