Next stop: Des Moines! Max Kearns begins the celebration as the Vikings complete their win.
The bus ride home ended with a parade of honking Viking fans following the team to the school.
The Vinton-Shellsburg Vikings will play Harlan at 3:45 p.m. next Tuesday, March 5, in the opening round of the Iowa High School State Basketball Tournament in Des Moines.
The Vikings earned the berth with a 65-56 Sub-State win over Crestwood at the McLeod Center on the UNI campus Monday night.
Grant Sagan again led the Vikings in scoring witth 24. Max Kearns added 14 points and five assists. Four Vikings scored in double figures.
The Cadets jumped to an early lead; V-S trailed 9-4 at one point and was down by two at the end of the first period. But they gained the lead early in the second and led the last 20 minutes of the game.
