Sports : District basketball schedule; Vikes to host Independence Monday, Feb. 18

The path to Des Moines, for the Vinton-Shellsburg Vikings, begins at home Monday, Feb. 18, when the Vikings host Independence in District play. If the Vikings win, their next game would be Thursday, Feb. 21, vs. either Union or Benton Community, at Linn-Mar High School in Marion. The winner of that game will advance to the Sub-State contest at the McLeod Center at UNI in Cedar Falls on Monday, Feb. 25.

The other four teams in the Sub-State 3 are Oelwein, Decorah, Waukon and Crestwood/Cresco.

The winner of the Feb. 25 Sub-State game advances to the State Tournament.
