Max Griffith helped propel the Viking to an early lead by connecting on his first four 3-point attempts in the first quarter of the Vikings' basketball game versus Clear Creek Amana. Griffith was hot from behind the arc throughout Friday's game, hitting 8 of 9 attempts. Grant Sagan, however, led the Vikings, scoring 25 in the 69-51 V-S victory.
Sagan tipped the ball to Kelyn Rickels for a quick lay-up to open the game; Griffith hit his first three, then stole the ball from a CCA guard, leading to Sagan's first basket. The Vikings were up, 7-0 before their opponents had a scoring opportunity.
The Vikings led, 23-17 after the first quarter, and 35-25 at halftime.
The Vikings struggled early in the third quarter, and at one time led just by five, 37-32. But they rallied to stretch their lead back to nine by the end of the third.
Then in the fourth, the Vikings poured it on. Holding the clippers scoreless for five minutes, the Vikings expanded their lead to 67-44. Coach Joe Johnson pulled the starters with just a little over three minutes left to play.
