Sports : Grant Sagan scores 34; Vikings 11-0 after big win vs. Columbus

The Vinton-Shellsburg Vikings are 11-0 now, tied with five other teams for the best win-loss record in all of Iowa. The Vikings defeated Waterloo Columbus, 78-43, on their home court Tuesday evening.

Grant Sagan led the top-rated basketball team in class 3A, with 34 points, making 13 of his 15 shots, including three of four 3-point attempts. Sagan is now the second-leading scorer in Class 3A, averaging 19.7 points per game. Max Kearns added eight more assists; he now leads all of Class 3A in assists with 84, and is second among all Iowa players in that category. The Vikings have won their 11 games by an average of more than 21 points.

The Vikings travel to Williamsburg Friday and to Independence next Tuesday before hosting Clear Creek-Amana Jan. 18.
