All the players on the V-S Vikings baseball team members were born after the original "Cardiac Kids," the 1980 Philadelphia Phillies baseball team, which won the World Series by managing to win some very close games.

But the Vikings have scratched and clawed their way to an 8-1 beginning and are unbeaten and at the top of the WaMaC standings after several come-from-behind or extra-inning victories.

They had another one of those wins Thursday night in Anamosa. They won the first game in a comparatively easy fashion, building an early lead and winning 4-2.

But they found themselves down 5-3 early in Game 2, and later tied at 9-9 before scoring the winning run in the bottom of the seventh.

More than one mother commented while leaving the stadium that the game left them feeling nervous, or too nervous.

All of the runs in Game 1 were scored in the fourth inning. Two walks, doubles by Nolan Edwards and Matt DeVries, and a triple by Clint Ferguson gave starting pitcher Carson Struve all the runs he would need to win.

Struve was relieved by Bryce Burroughs, who got the save.

Ferguson also had the big hit of Game 2, a two-run fifth inning home run.

Kody Seaton got the win. He came into the game in the sixth inning with nobody out. He quickly picked off the Raider runner on first base, and struck out the batter. After an error, Seaton got the next batter to ground out. He struck out two in the seventh to seal the win.

The Vikings had gone ahead 10-9, in the top of the seventh, when Taylor Leyden, walked, stole second, advanced to third on an error and scored the winning run on a sacrifice fly.

The Vikings are scheduled to play tonight at Veterans Stadium in Cedar Rapids, but rainy weather may cause a change in those plans.
