Union knocked off former State Champion Solon, 39-24 Monday night at Solon in high school football playoff action. The Knights will host Class 3A District 5 Champion Maquoketa next Monday, Oct. 7. The Cardinals had defeated Union 35-15 during the regular season.

Three fumble recoveries, an early interception, along with a 95-yard pass and a 54-yard run by QB Jay Scheel were big factors in the win over Solon, which has won a state title in either class 2A or 3A in the past four years. It was the first playoff loss for Solon since the 2006 Class 2A state championship game.
