Sports : Coach receives Rising Coach of 2026 Award

Rising Coach of the Year for 2026, Coach AJ Wygle

The Iowa Basketball Coaches Association (IBCA) recognized Vinton-Shellsburg's Coach, AJ Wygle as the Rising Coach of the Year for 2026.

In a ceremony, he was recognized with a plaque that reads, " AJ Wygle, Vinton-Shellburg Hight School - 2026 Rising Coach of the Year - The IBCA recognizes coaches who demonstrate exceptional game knowledge, uphold the highest standards of conduct, and build meaningful relationships with players, parents and fellow coaches. Your commitment to these values has set you apart, and this honor is well deserved."

The award is a result of votes by all Iowa high school coached. He has been an assistant coach in Vinton with Coach Joe Johnson as well as coaching other grades in Vinton, and little leage basketballl at the Vinton Rec Center. He is currently the varsity basketball coach for Vinton-Shellsburg where he has served for the last two years.
