A crowd thrilling event took place at the Hawkeye Downs Speedway.
The highlight of the event was the Sprint Invaders, where Tasker Phillips dominated the race. Phillips moved to the high line and into the lead as Dustin Selvage and J.J. Hickle followed. It didn’t take long for Phillips to move into lapped cars as his lead expanded. Terry McCarl had moved into the top four alongside Cody Wehrle. With five to go, Phillips and Hickle distanced themselves from the field. Phillips crossed the checkers first, Hickle, Selvage and Wehrle rounded out the top four.
Tony Olson, no stranger to victory lane, found himself in the top spot in the Sport Mods. Brett Thomas took the lead early as Austin Kemp and Tyler Maschmann followed. Olson used the high line and quickly found himself behind Kemp who took the top spot over Thomas. Lapped cars were now in the view of the duo fighting for the lead. Olson took over the top spot as Kemp had Thomas on his bumper. Tim Plummer had moved into the top five as the laps clicked away. Olson took home the victory, Kemp, Plummer and Thomas followed.
Cristain Grady was the victor in the Sport Compacts. Stephen Randall looked to be the one to beat early in the event. Corey Crispin moved into second as Grady moved into third. Brad Chandler worked the top line and into third before a caution slowed the race. Upon the restart, Chandler and Grady challenged Randall for the top position and Grady made his way to the lead. Chandler worked the top groove as Randall worked the low line. Grady finished first, Chandler, Randall and Crispin followed respectively.
Mike Gray was the winner in the Vintage Open Wheels. Gray took the lead early as Terry Doud made his way around John Tobias for second. Doug Sylverster moved into third as the laps wound down, the trio out front began to pull away. Gray took home the trophy, Doud and Sylvester followed.
October 10th and 11th will be the next two events at the speedway.
