Drivers weren't the only ones competing for the top spot at the Benton County Speedway on Sunday, August 7. It was decision night for the Speedway's annual coloring contest, which awarded a combined total of over $150 in prizes. Trophy winners collected a bag of loot, including skating or mini-golf passes to the Vinton Skate and Activity Center, Palace Bucks for the Vinton Palace Theater and Vinton Value Dollars courtesy of Vinton Unlimited. A few small gifts courtesy of the Speedway concession's staff, frisbees courtesy of G&G Auto Parts of Vinton, their trophy, some candy and checkered flags courtesy of the Speedway left the kids smiling. Winners, in no particular order, included: Joren Fisher of Garrison; Kiley Fiser of Vinton; Kynzie Vollbrecht of Atkins; Dalynn Pokorny of Elberon; Seth Stacy of Brandon; Hannah Petersen of Brandon; Hunter Vollbrecht of Atkins and Kelsty Pokorny of Elberon. The Benton County Speedway hosts weekly IMCA racing on Sunday nights until September 18, minus a one week vacation on September 11 for the IMCA Speedway Motors Super Nationals in Boone. Upcoming events include Autism Awareness night with kid's bike races on Sunday, August 21, and the Salute to Iowa's Bravest Season Championship night, sponsored by Wrap'd Up Designs of Dysart on Sunday, September 18. Gates at the track open at 4:30pm with hot laps beginning at 6pm. Adults are $10 and kids 6-12 are $4.
