Sports : VS alumni football team continues preparing for July 8 game at CPU

With a game set on Friday July 8 at 7 p.m. on Center Point's football field, the Vinton Shellsburg Alumni Football team continues to practice weekly as they gear up for a contest against the Stormin' Pointers. The Vikings' squad consists of former players from three decades of graduating classes. The game will feature full pads, full contact, and a complete, hard hitting football game. Coaches Dave Boisen, Mike Timmermans, and Dusty Schirm are helping to keep the team organized and focused. This game also serves as a fundraiser for the Vinton Shellsburg School District. 50% of the money from all tickets sold prior to the game will be presented back to our school. Tickets are $10 each (ages 6 and younger are free) and can be picked up at Tharp's Designs, the Vinton Unlimited office, and Farmer's Savings Bank to name a few. It should be noted that all money from ticket sales the night of the game will go to the Alumni Football USA organization who is responsible for putting the contest together. With just 3 regular practices scheduled, anyone who is interested in playing is encouraged to come out. Minimum age is 18 and you must be a graduate of Vinton.
