The Vinton-Shellsburg Vikings recovered from a couple of minor ankle injuries in time to compete against Independence Tuesday night in Vinton. The Vikings defeated the Mustangs, 59-45, in WaMaC West action.

Starting center Brody Beatty was recovering from a minor sprain, and reserve Jake Milroy returned to action several weeks after suffering a sprain that was originally diagnosed as a broken bone.

Beatty led the Vikings with 12 points, while Grant Sagan and Jake Dyson were also in double figures, with 10. Class 3A assist leader Logan Williams had seven assists while also scoring nine points. The Vikings only committed 10 fouls.

The Pink Night Friday vs. Solon will include the auction of a pink basketball signed by the Viking players, as well as the warm-up uniforms worn by the team. All proceeds will go toward the Virginia Gay Hospital efforts to diagnose and treat breast cancer.
