Players on both teams wore pink in their hair, and the Vinton-Shellsburg girls wore black and pink warm-up suits Friday when they hosted Clear Creek-Amana on the basketball court at VSHS.

Continuing a tradition, the Vikettes are raising money again this year to fight breast cancer. The pink basketball used for tipoff was raffled; raising $200. T-shirt sales and other fund-raisers are also contributing to the effort. The Vikings are also involved in the effort; next week's game vs. Solon also has the Pink theme.

The Vikettes beat the Clippers, 52-27, and Senior Vikette center Allison Emrich passed the 1,000-point career milestone early in the game.

Dozens of area breast cancer survivors were introduced to the crowd during halftime.

VS cheerleader Suzanne Robinson and her father, Brian, both wore red in their hair (and Brian in his beard) to honor Brian's mom and Suzanne's grandmother, Mary, who was recently diagnosed with breast cancer. Scores of Vikette fans wore pink.

Boys game

As the girls were celebrating their win and their successful pink campaign, word arrived via phone that the Vikings lost at CCA, by two points, in ovetime.
