The first girls swim meet went very well - VSU won the meet over Williamsburg 106-64. The first meet is always interesting as the squad is generally untested and is primarily working on building endurance and honing technique. But the times these girls posted tonight show they've been working hard and have set the bar pretty high already.

Geordyn Webster's 50 Freestyle time converts to being 1.1 seconds away from what the State qualifying time was last year. Maren Redlinger's 100 Breaststroke was almost a full second faster than her best time was last year. And Clarissa Carolan's 200 Individual Medley matched her best time from last year.
Justyce Dominick and Carlie Spore had strong times in the 400 Freestyle - especially noteworthy considering they've only trained for distance a few days. Lauren Moore hit the ground running this season with times right on her bests in the 100 Freestyle and 100 Backstroke, coming in second only to her teammates. And newcomer Molly Clark showed she has lots to contribute, able to place and score points in the 50 Freestyle despite swimming in a slower heat - where less than a half of a second decided 3rd-6th place.
Webster and Carolan won every event they swam. In fact, VSU took first in all but 1 event of the night (that 1 event saw VSU take 2nd and 3rd instead). It was a solid first meet - some small things to tweak going forward, but there's always room for improvement. And this team has shown they're ready to work hard and now they know it will pay off. That's a fantastic way to start a season.
