Sports : Vikings, Vikettes both in third place in WaMaC West basketball standings

The Vinton-Shellsburg Vikings ended their two-game losing streak with a 59-23 win at Waterloo Columbus Tuesday evening.

Brody Beatty led the Vikings with 19 points. Logan Williams added 14 and Jake Dyson, 10.

The Vikings travel to Van Horne on Friday to play Benton Community. V-S defeated the Bobcats, 63-45 in Vinton on Dec. 14. Then they play Williamsburg Tuesday in Vinton.

Girls action: Columbus 42, Vikettes 32

The VS girls hosted the Sailors Tuesday, losing 42-32. Erika Hammar led the Vikettes with 15 points. Makenzie Westendorf scored 10. The girls travel to Williamsburg on Tuesday.

WaMac West standings

The Vikings are tied with Clear Creek-Aman for third in the WaMaC West, at 8-5. Marion (9-4) and Williamsburg (8-3) are the conference leaders at this point.

The Vikettes are also in third place, with a 7-8 conference record. Williamsburg (14-1) and Benton Community (12-3) are in first and second place.
