It was a spilt couple of days for the Vinton-Shellsburg Vikings last week. Tuesday, the Vikings shook off some early doldrums to blast South Tama, 58-23, but Thursday was a different story as the Vikes dropped a 71-35 decision to WaMaC West leader Center Point-Urbana.

After battling the Trojans to a 9-9 draw after one period, Coach Joe Johnson's Vikings took control, going up 22-13 at the half before outscoring STC 36-12 the rest of the way.

CJ Rickels led the Vikings with 12 points, while Sam Griffith added 11, Derron Hughes and David Lapan-Islas eight each, Jose Wilson six, Jose Wilson six, Tanner Rodman and Jace Rake four apiece, Ryan Moore three and Sam Moen two. Wilson controlled the boards for the Vikes with seven rebounds and added three assists.

Thursday night was a different story. The Stormin' Pointer stormed into the Garrison Fieldhouse and brought the thunder with them. The Vikings trailed 22-7 after one and were down 42-15 at the half.

Rickels led the Vikings with 10 points and Griffith and Jax Watson each added six. Wilson had three, while Rodman, Hughes, Lapan-Islas, Jesse Pladsen and Elijah Kalous all had a pair.

Friday's road trip to Central DeWitt was postponed to February 17, so the Vikes will be back in action Tuesday when they host Independence before heading off to Clear Creek-Amana Friday night.
