VINTON -- First-year head coach Rich Haisman got a Thanksgiving treat from his Vinton-Shellsburg girls' basketball team Tuesday night.

The Vikette presented their new coach with a season-opening 46-30 WaMaC Conference victory over West Delaware before big crowd in the Garrison FIeldhouse. 

V-S trailed once in the game, 2-0, before scoring 11 straight and putting the game away early. They would lead 15-8 after one, 28-14 at the half and 34-22 going into the fourth quarter.

Lucy Howes-Vonstein led the way for the Vikettes with 12 points, backed by Taryn Sutton with eight, Kayla Griffith with seven, Aza Swayzer with six, Abby Bartz and Davia Herger with four each, Kyla Jeffery with three and Kaitlyn Meyer with two.

The Vikettes will be back in the Fieldhouse next Tuesday night when they host the Maquoketa Cardinals.
