VINTON - CJ Rickels's 22 points coupled with a tenacious defense by the home team led the Vinton-Shellsburg Vikings to a 57-38 victory over the Union Knights Thursday night in the Garrison Fieldhouse.Coach Joe Johnson's Vikings (1-1) led 17-8 after one period, then blew the game open in the second quarter to take a 34-15 into the locker room at the half.Rickels had a phenomenal night from the field as the junior hit nine field goals - including a pair of three-pointers - on his was to 22. Sam Griffith added 12, Jose Wilson eight, David Lapan-Islas five, Sam Moen four and Tanner Rodman, Derron Hughes and Jace Rake two each. The Vikings return home Friday night to host the Spartans of Solon at the Fieldhouse.
