VSU knew this was going to be a challenging night: Decorah is a very talented, very big team. With the Iowa Braille School pool still being down, VSU has been traveling to Waterloo West High School for practices - and even that has only happened 2 nights each week for the past 2 weeks. Suffice it to say that VSU hasn't had consistent practice time since September 18.
All things considered, it was a positive night in a lot of ways. The girls' times were all very close to what their season bests have been - there were even some time drops sprinkled in. Carlie Spore cut 4 seconds off her 500 Freestyle time to come in at 7:25.15. Sadie Hennings, Lauren Upmeyer, Chelsea Tharp, Hanna Higley, and Sandra Kraklio all cut time in their 50 Freestyle.
The 200 Medley Relay of Clarissa Carolan, Lexi Goodell, Geordyn Webster, and Justyce Dominick had their fastest time of the season at 2:02.56 - good enough for first place and an encouraging position to qualify for the state meet in a few weeks.
The 200 Freestyle Relay of Carolan, Maren Redlinger, Dominick, and Webster also had their fastest relay time of the year at 1:52.03. This put them in second place and brings them close to a state-qualifying level as well.
"I'm encouraged to see we're still maintaining times. And I'm hopeful that times will come down a bit more with more consistent practices set up - even if we have to travel 2 hours to make it happen" said coach Ashley Hesson.
