Williamsburg only led for 11.4 seconds. But it was all they needed.
The Vinton-Shellsburg Vikettes resumed their season after the Christmas break Tuesday night, meeting Williamsburg. The Vikettes led 19-15 at the half, and 35-26 at the end of the third quarter.
But Williamsburg pressured the VIkettes throughout the fourth quarter, slowly chipping away at the lead. Leading scorer Allison Emrich fouled out with 2:22 left. The Vikettes still led by two with 1:51 left.
After tying the game at 41, Williamsburg took the lead on two free throws by Tina Lane.
The Vikettes took two shots in the final seconds. The first one missed. Paige Kreutner got the rebound but was fouled as she attempted a shot as time expired. With the clock down to zero, Kreutner had to make two free throws to take the game to overtime. She missed the first, and the game ended 43-41, Raiders.
"Our girls have no reason to hang their heads," said Vikette Coach Deb Hanneman. "They played very hard against a very good team."
This is the second last-minute loss for the Vikettes; they lost at Waterloo Columbus that way in December.
"Our girls were upset after that loss, but they are much more upset now," said Hanneman, after Tuesday night's game in Vinton.
The Vikettes host Independence on Friday.

The Vikings traveled to Williamsburg Tuesday night, hoping to keep their win streak alive. But they lost to the Raiders by 5, 51-46.
