Coach Michelle Stepanek’s Vinton-Shellsburg Vikettes dropped a hard-fought 3-1 decision to Independence Tuesday night at Garrison Fieldhouse.
The Mustangs won the first two sets 21-25 (after leading 1-12), 17-25 before the Vikettes roared back to take the third 25-16, before Indee came back to take a 16-25 fourth set and the match.
Josie Sage had big night for the Vikettes (12-13). The versatile junior had 13 kills, eight assists, 11 digs and was a perfect 13 of 13 from the serving line with an ace. Raelynn Murray led with 15 digs and went 21 for 21in serves. Kate Hyland added 14 digs, while Sonnie Evans led the setters with 16 assists. Complete stats can be found at https://tinyurl.com/y238trn9
The Vikettes will be back action Tuesday night when they travel down the road to take on Center Point-Urbana.
