The Amana course is always a challenge; it has no mow, fairways are lined with trees, it's hilly and its large greens are fast. It is a long nine holes to walk, but only walking is allowed in high school golf. It's a good opportunity to see how a team responds. Both teams only totaled three scores in the 50s. Last year we played there in the middle of May; playing a month earlier in the season also makes a difference. Low putts were 18 for Lauren Murray. Lillie Lamont had two bad holes but recovered well to score 51; her golf experience helped her to remain calm and to battle back after a bad hole. She posted three pars.
JV played but they were not able to complete a full round. Those competing for Vinton-Shellsburg were: Carly Bendull, Davia Herger, Kaylee Sorum, Morgan Lang, Zena Aragon, Natalie Armstrong, and Morgan Reeves.
We host a dual with Benton Community tonight at Wildcat Golf Course in Shellsburg at 4:00
