Nevada, Iowa, residents are fond of saying that the pronounce the name of their town a speaker of its native language, Spanish, would say it: Nev-A-dah, instead of the typical way you hear the Nevada, the state, pronounced: Nev-ah-dah. (In Spanish, the letter "e" usually sounds more like the English hard a rather than the schwa sound most often associated with the letter e in English.) The Vinton-Shellsburg football team will travel to the Story County town, 90 miles west, for Friday's football game. It will be Homecoming for the Nevada Cubs.
