The Vinton-Shellsburg volleyball players began camp on Monday.
As the season approaches, the Iowa Girls High School Athletic Union says volleyball is both the fastest-growing sport in the state. "As the fastest growing girls sport in the state, volleyball has the highest participation numbers with more than 11,000 Iowa girls playing. Volleyball is a true team sport — everyone coming together for the good of the team, developing leadership skills and dedication to support each other," says the IGHSAU web site.
The VS varsity volleyball season begins Aug. 25, with a tournament at Meskwakie High School. The first home contests will take place Sept. 1, with a Saturday tournament that includes Cedar Rapids - Jefferson, Hampton-Dumont-CAL, Iowa Valley Community, Janesville, Valley Lutheran and West Delaware.
