Medalist Rachel Tandy's 91 led the Vinton-Shellsburg Vikette golf team to victory at the Regional contest in Clinton on Monday. The next Regional contest is the state qualifier. Valley Oaks was a challenging golf course, particularly the back nine. It had lots of danger with no mow and water. There were so many holes that could destroy a good round of golf on this course! Fortunately we were able to get there twice to practice, and that experience helped carry us through. We had a solid front nine score of 186, but struggled to tame the back nine with a 210. Still, we held our own and now will advance to Williamsburg's Stone Creek course next Monday for the final round of regionals. Rachel Tandy led the way and tied for the meet's low total. Once again, it was our team's consistency and determination that got these ladies to the top finish. I was proud of each of them! Williamsburg's course holds its own challenges; fortunately we've played there once this year and it's a shorter drive. It is a nine hole course so we will play it twice Monday, May 22, when we meet with Anamosa, Centerville, and Mediapolis to determine which two teams and top five individuals advance to State May 30 and 31 at Lake Panorama Golf Course in Panora.
