After the sixth week of the 2010 football season, the Vinton-Shellsburg Vikings are at .500. They are 2-2 in District 5 action and 3-3 overall.
The Vikings traveled to Anamosa, where they defeated the winless Raiders, 58-14.
The Vikings' 2-2 record puts them in a three way tie in their district, But according to the point standing system used by the Iowa High School Athletic Association, the Vikings are in sixth place as they head into the final third of the season.
There are four teams tied at 2-2 in District play: Maquoketa, Central DeWitt, Western Dubuque and V-S. But of those four, the Viking have the lowest point differential.
The Vikings need to move up two spaces in the next three weeks to make the playoffs again this year. Last year, they made the playoff with a district record of 3-4 and and overall record of 4-5. There were three teams tied at 3-4 in the district at the end of the 2009 season, but V-S won the fourth playoff spot by having the highest point differential of those three.
Union High School of La Porte City-Dysart is tied with Marion at the top of the District 5 standings. Both teams are 6-0 on the season.

Vinton ends its season by traveling to CPU this weekend, hosting DeWitt Central Oct. 15, and by traveling to Union Oct. 22.
Union hosts Western Dubuque this week then travels to Marion Oct. 15, with a possible District title on the line before ending the season at home against the Vikings.
