Sports : Vikettes begin softball season with two one-run games

The Vinton-Shellsburg Vikettes opened their softball season with a 10-9 win at Grinnell, scoring five in the top of the 7th and holding on for the win.

Senior Maci Griffith led the Vikettes with four hits and three runs; sophomore Bif Davis also scored three times for VS. Rachel Tandy and Alex Maynard pitched for VS, with Maynard recording the win.

However, V-S lost its second game of the season, 7-6, at home Wednesday vs. North Tama. Down 7-4, the Vikettes managed two score two in their last chance, but ended up one run short. Maynard started the game on the mound; Tandy pitched the final two innings.
