V-S finished third of fifteen teams. We tied Solon but our fifth player (Halie Engler) finished ahead of theirs, so we were awarded third even though we had the same team score (best four of six scores). It reinforces the adage: Every Stroke Counts! It was a wet day and they had received two inches of rain. This is a very challenging golf course with lots of woods, steep hills and water hazards.
Three of our girls received medals. Sophomore Rachel Tandy placed sixth overall and was named First Team All-Conference. Lauren Tandy and Brandi Gerber were named All Conference Honorable Mention.
V-S Individual Scores:
Rachel Tandy 45, 52=97
Lauren Tandy 47, 54=101
Brandi Gerber 53, 57=110
Olivia Walker 54, 65=119
Halie Engler 60, 60=120
Anna Sagan 58, 63=121
Vinton-Shellsburg girls will participate in the Prairie Invitational Wednesday, May 11 and the South Tama Invitational Saturday, May 14. Regionals are scheduled for May 23 at Waverly.
